Sometimes the world seems to be backwards and now more than ever it is important to look forward. We need to make the most out of what we have today in order to minimize a negative impact on tomorrow. At Hellenic Group we believe that sustainability is not a  destination, it is the way to get there. The future starts today.

To secure that our complete value chain meets the high requirements of our responsibility  Hellenic Group have local presence in the countries we produce in. Our CSR and Sustainability work is controlled from Sweden but we also have separate departments dedicated to this in our offices in China, Bangladesh and India. We work very close together and that gives us a higher presence and follow-up with our producing partners and is a great help in ensuring the most sustainable production possible. Our colleagues on site visit our suppliers and observe their work daily. We believe this is the best way to ensure that the  employees work environments meet our standards.

Hellenic cooperate with our suppliers and other members and work according to the Amfori  BSCI framework. Hellenic are a member of Amfori BSCI which is a European business-driven collaborative initiative for companies that want to improve working conditions in the global supply chain. We are today over 2000 companies collaborate to facilitate members and suppliers through consistent requirements and improvements. Within this framework, we implement Amfori's code of conduct in our supply chain, improve working conditions, and increase environmental performance in our global supply chain. Amfori BSCI´s code of  conduct is based on international standards, such as the international labour organization (ilo) conventions and recommendations, the united nations (un) universal declaration of human rights, and the un guiding principles on business and human rights (ungp). Through Amfori BSCI, our suppliers are regularly and systematically reviewed, and this establishes the baseline and minimum requirements in our supply chain. These audits are based on 13 principles covering areas such as forced labour, living wages, reasonable working hours, child labour and discrimination.

We do believe that the key to this work is our local presence. By frequent supplier visits by our personnel that talk same language as the workers in the factories. We can see the real situation with our own eyes and try to do the best we can to ensure the work conditions meet our standards.

As traceability is one of our keywords we do not stop with the Tier 1 supplier (garment supplier). We are also working very closely and follow up with our Tier 2 suppliers (fabric, accessories) as well.

To produce textile products, chemicals are also needed. But chemicals don't always have to be something negative, it's just about choosing the right one. To ensure our knowledge of the chemical requirements in the textile industry, we have a close cooperation with chemical consultants in the textile industry. They provide us with ongoing information on the development of the legislation and support when needed. Of course, we also conduct laboratory tests of our products to ensure that they meet all requirements.

We follow the Chemicals guidance and are working with a chemical tool there we specify the risk chemicals for each component produced. This helps our partners to focus on relevant risk  chemicals in the particular component they produce for us and the focus will be on the real  risks in each garment

We are affected by the European Chemicals Regulation REACH and have it as a guideline for our chemical work. REACH is constantly being updated which means that more and more substances used in clothing production are banned.

Transparency and Traceability is the keywords to everything we do. Our customers have  the right to know where we produce their garments and what´s in their garments

If you have any future questions regarding our sustainability work or if you want to know  more about what sustainable fabrics we can provide and what certifications we hold today, please contact our Quality, CSR and Sustainability Manager Susanne Hagman, susanne.h@hellenic-group.com
